Member Making a Difference: Nancy Paist-Riches, pictured below with Co-President, Beryl Goldman
The Member Making a Difference Award is presented to an affiliate member who has made a significant impact on the affiliate within the past year. The affiliate selects this recipient because she exemplifies the spirit of AAUW
. Beryl Goldman presented this award to Nancy Paist-Riches at the May Banquet in recognition of her many contributions to AAUW WCCC and, in particular, to her leadership as Co-President for three years, a year beyond the usual term. Her response to the needs of the affiliate, her support and development of skills in the officers around her, and her strong focus on the organization’s mission made her, in so many ways, the member who truly has made a difference. Nancy is on the left, with Beryl Goldman, Co-President.

The AAUW West Chester-Chester County branch sponsored a workshop on salary negotiation for the student group Women in Business at West Chester University. The session started with a brief presentation setting the framework of the inequities that women face as well as how to find information about salaries in different industries and geographies. The 75 student attendees then broke into small groups for more personal discussions with “seasoned” women. Eleven volunteers, including AAUW members and colleagues worked with these small groups to discuss how to approach salary negotiation, with a special focus on entering into their first career position. Some of the young women expressed strong interest in learning how to build and extend their networks, others were interested in more clearly understanding benefits and how they become part of their salary structure. The feedback was very positive and both our Branch and the WCU Women in Business organization look forward to future sessions.

This group dines around either at a member’s home or at a restaurant. The group usually meets on a Saturday for dinner or Sunday for brunch on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Couples (unless otherwise specified) and singles, as well as new members, are welcome.
